How low-income families will save

In 2024-25, a Gold Coast family of 5 with 3 children aged between 4 and 17 years that has an approximate annual income of $72,000, which qualifies them for a Health Care Card, can now save more than $9,700.

  • $1,300 Cost of Living Rebate (this consists of an upfront $1,000 Cost of Living Rebate from the Queensland Government and a $300 rebate paid in quarterly instalments from the Australian Government).
  • $492 through the Textbook and Resource Allowance paid directly to the 2 eldest children’s school.
  • Saving $4,800 (on average) in kindergarten fees under the Free Kindy program for the youngest child.
  • FairPlay vouchers up to the value of $200 for each of the 2 eldest children.
  • $85 registration fee concession on a private use, 4-cylinder car (including TIF, excluding CTP).
  • $150 SwimStart voucher for learn to swim lessons for the youngest child.
  • 50 cent public transport fares for 6 months. If one parent commutes from Robina to Bowen Hills 4 times a week, this cost will go from $91.68 to $4 per week saving $2,104 over 6 months.
