$1000 off your energy bills

Queensland Cost of Living Action is a package of real households savings, including $1000 off your energy bills from July 1.

$1000 will be automatically credited as a lump-sum to eligible residential customer electricity bills from 1 July 2024—there is no need to apply. Exact timing will depend on individual billing cycles. Look for the ‘Queensland Government Cost of Living Rebate’ on your bill.

To be eligible, residential customers must have an electricity account with their electricity retailer or embedded network provider on 1 July 2024 and be separately metered and charged for their own electricity consumption.

If a customer’s electricity account is already in credit, the rebate will still be applied and any credit will be carried over to future bills. The rebate may also help pay off any overdue electricity bills customers have.

Customers still have the flexibility to switch retailers for a better deal, even if the rebate has left their account in credit. When switching retailers, any leftover credit will be refunded to the customer as part of the transfer process.

The 2023–24 Cost of Living Rebate—$700 for vulnerable households and $550 for all other eligible households—has already been applied to customer electricity bills. The Queensland Government announced the $1000 Cost of Living Rebate to support households in 2024–25. Customers don’t need to apply for this rebate—it will be automatically applied to electricity bills from 1 July 2024.

Seniors, pensioners and concession card holders could get even more through the Queensland Electricity Rebate. If you don't already receive the $372 Queensland Electricity Rebate, find out the requirements and if you are eligible.
