Non State Schools Transport Assistance Scheme

The Bus Fare Assistance Program (BFAP) assists families by providing funding towards the transport costs of students attending non-state schools outside of the Brisbane City Council area.

School Transport Assistance Scheme

The School Transport Assistance Scheme provides assistance for eligible students travelling to and from school on all Translink or qconnect bus, ferry, train and tram services, as well as for private vehicle travel.

Home Assist Secure (HAS) provides critical home maintenance services to people aged 60 years or over, or people of any age who have a disability.

A range of concessions are available that can reduce the cost of registering a vehicle or boat in Queensland for eligible Queenslanders.

Regional Public Transport Concessions

Rail Concession Scheme

Concessions are available for long distance Queensland Rail (QR) travel for eligible pensioners, veterans, seniors, secondary and tertiary students and international backpackers. TPI/EDA Veteran Travel Pass holders are entitled to one return service each fortnight.

Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme

Providing financial assistance to patients who need to access specialist medical services not available within their local area. The scheme provides a subsidy towards the cost of travel and accommodation for patients and, in some cases, an approved escort.

Spectacle Supply Scheme

The scheme provides eligible Queensland residents with a pair of basic prescription spectacles, once every 2 years.

Oral Health Scheme for children

The Oral Health Scheme provides free dental care to eligible clients. This includes appointments for check-ups, preventive care, fillings and toothaches or accidents or emergencies.

Concessional Car Parking

This concession offers an annual discount on fishing permits for concession card holders.

Vouchers of up to $200 for membership, registration or participation fees to help keep more kids active.

South East Queensland Pensioner Water Subsidy Scheme

A water subsidy of up to $120 per year is available for eligible South East Queensland pensioners to help ease the cost of living. Customers must apply through their water provider.

Emergency Management Levy

The Emergency Management Levy (EML) is applied to all Queensland property via council rates to ensure there is a sustainable funding base for fire and emergency services when Queenslanders are at risk during emergencies such as floods, cyclones, storms as well as fire and accidents.

Pensioner Rate Subsidy Scheme

A rates subsidy of up to $200 per year is available for eligible Queensland pensioners to help ease the cost of living.  Customers must apply through their local council.

Medical Cooling and Heating Electricity Concession Scheme

The Medical Cooling and Heating Electricity Concession Scheme helps with electricity costs for people who have a chronic medical condition, such as multiple sclerosis, autonomic system dysfunction, significant burns or a severe inflammatory skin condition, which is aggravated by changes in temperature.

Electricity Life Support Concession Scheme

Electricity life support concession for eligible people who are seriously ill and use a home-based oxygen concentrator or kidney dialysis machine. This scheme currently provides eligible applicants with:

  • $1,024.38 per year for each oxygen concentrator, or
  • $686.01 per year for each kidney dialysis machine you use.

Reticulated Natural Gas Rebate Scheme

Queensland pensioners and seniors may be eligible for an annual rebate of $89.70 on their reticulated natural gas bill. Rebates are automatically deducted from your bill. Customers must apply for their rebate through their gas provider.

Home Energy Emergency Assistance Scheme

The Home Energy Emergency Assistance Scheme provides one-off emergency assistance of up to $720 every 2 years. It helps low income households experiencing a short–term financial crisis who are unable to pay their current electricity or reticulated natural gas account. Customers must apply through their energy provider.

Electricity Rebate Scheme

Queensland pensioners and seniors may be eligible for an annual rebate of $372.20 on their electricity bill. Customers must apply for their rebate through their electricity provider.

Public and Community Housing

Public and community housing is available as a safety net to vulnerable people who are assessed as having the greatest need.

National Rental Affordability Scheme

This is a national scheme to increase the supply of new affordable rental dwellings for low to medium income households.

Bond Loans

A Bond Loan is an interest-free loan to cover the rental bond when moving into private rental accommodation. The loan is up to a maximum of 4 weeks rent, and must be repaid.

Rental Grants

A Rental Grant is a once only, non-repayable, grant equivalent to the amount of 2 weeks rent to help households in housing crisis meet some of the costs of moving into private rental accommodation.

Cost of Living Rebate

Eligible Queenslanders will receive a $1000 Cost of Living Rebate on their electricity bill in 2024–25.

Support is available for eligible foster and kinship carers (carers) to update smoke alarms in their homes by reimbursing carers up to $1500 through the child related cost process.

Climate Smart Energy Savers

The Climate Smart Energy Savers appliance rebate has closed for new purchases and installations. The program was open from 4 September–4 December 2023, providing rebates of up to $1,000 to householders who purchased eligible 4-star or higher energy efficient appliances. If you purchased an eligible appliance or installed an eligible air conditioner or hot water system up until 11:59pm on 4 December 2023, you will need to submit your rebate application within 30 days of purchase/installation. Applications cannot be accepted after 3 January 2024.

Queensland Zero Emission Vehicle Rebate Scheme

Eligible Queenslanders can access up to $6000 on an eligible new zero emission vehicle.

SwimStart vouchers

Vouchers up to $150 which can be used towards swimming lessons for 0 to 4 year olds with a registered SwimStart activity provider.

Battery Booster program

The Battery Booster program has now closed to new conditional approval applications. The program provides rebates of up to $4,000 for eligible Queenslanders to purchase and install household battery systems connected to new or existing rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.

After receiving their conditional approval letter, householders participating in the program have up to 90 days to install their conditionally approved battery system and claim the rebate.

50 cent public transport flat fares

From August 5 2024, the 50 cent flat rate will apply across all zones and modes on the Translink network across Queensland. This includes all regional urban buses, and bus, train, ferry, tram and on demand services in South East Queensland.

Half-price Airtrain fares

From August 5 2024, access half-price Airtrain fares between Brisbane Airport and Brisbane City stations.

20% off car registration for 12-months

From 16 September 2024, registration fees for light vehicles, including trailers, will be decreased by 20% for 1 year. The reduced amounts will start appearing on vehicle registration notices from 5 August 2024.
